Some Lesser Known Facts About S. S. Narayan
Narayan played both football and basketball and represented Maharashtra at national tournaments.
Narayan featured in 9 international matches between 1956 and 1964 for the Indian football team.
Despite being born in the Palakkad district of Kerala, he spent most of his career in Bombay and even represented Bombay in the Santosh Trophy in 1956 and Maharashtra in 1964.
Narayan was part of the team which participated in the Olympic Games of 1956 and 1960. He was also part of the team which came fourth in the 1958 Asian Games and finished second in the 1964 AFC Asian Cup.
He was part of the Indian team which Participated in the 1959 Merdeka Cup.
After a long career of more than a decade, Narayan took retirement from first-class football in 1970.
After retiring from football, he worked with the Tata Group.
Narayan suffered a cardiac arrest minutes after he was discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery.
