Raj Babbar is a well-known Indian actor and politician.
After attending the National School of Drama in New Delhi, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his acting aspirations.

He has acted in many Hindi films like āSau Din Saas Keā (1982), āInsaaf Ka Tarazuā (1980), āKalyugā (1981), āNikaahā (1981), āSansarā (1987), and āBodyguardā (2011).
He moved to Nadiraās parentsā house after getting married to her in 1975, due to lack of finances.
When he asked his parents for his second marriage with Smita Patil, they gave him the option to either opt Smita or the house, and he opted Smita. After Smitaās death, he returned to his first wife.

In the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, he contested against the famous Indian leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ā from the Lucknow constituency.
He has founded a film production company Babbar Films Pvt. Ltd. along with his brother Kishan.
Once one of his friends Arun Khanna had a stroke in Mumbai, and Raj Babbar paid his medical bills because Arunās financial condition was not good at that time.
The role that Amitabh Bachchan played in the Hindi film āShaktiā (1982) was initially offered to Raj Babbar; however, later on, the role went to Amitabh Bachchan.
In 2025, his son, Prateik, dropped the Babbar surname and adopted his motherās surname. Prateik claimed that he did so as he did not wish to have to do anything with the Babbar family. Prateikās wife, Priya, claimed that Raj Babbar was never there for him and the relationship between the two was complicated. She talked about it, in an interview, and said,
You did this to somebody. But no, that family was never there, that person (referring to Raj Babbar) was never there in his life. So, Iām not sure why that question is coming up now, 30 years later.ā
