| Controversies | • Accused of Stealing $150 Million from Business In 2016, Pankaj Oswal was accused of misappropriating 150 million dollars from his Australian fertiliser business for personal benefits like acquiring a mansion, luxury cars, and his wife’s vegetarian restaurant chain. He and his wife fought the legal battle against the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) for allegedly undervaluing shares of their fertiliser company to recoup millions in debts. Pankaj claimed that he had a right in his father’s companies and other assets. Pankaj even claimed succession to his father's properties on the grounds that his family made him wear ‘pagri’ as per tradition at Abhey Oswal's prayer ceremony which means he was the legal heir to his father ever since. After graduating, Pankaj Oswal worked in several of his father’s enterprises.
Pankaj Oswal is a member of the renowned Oswal family which owns the global corporation named Oswal Group. The group includes listed firms like Oswal Greentech Limited. and Oswal Agro Mills Limited.
In the late 1990s, Pankaj Oswal moved to Australia to start his own business.
In 2001, Pankaj Oswal founded ‘Burrup Holdings Limited’ which is a Perth-based company and one of the world’s largest liquid ammonia production companies.
After working in Australia and being one of the richest people in Australia for a few years, Pankaj Oswal moved to Switzerland with his wife and children.
He always wanted to build a ‘Taj Mahal’ replica for his wife and daughters in Switzerland and in 2023, he bought a mansion located in Canton of Vaud in the Swiss village of Gingins which is 15 minutes away from Geneva.
Pankaj renovated the entire Swiss mansion under the guidance of world-famous interior designer Jeffrey Wilkes who has previously designed the iconic Oberoi Rajvilas, Oberoi Udaivilas, Mandarin Oriental, and Leela Hotels in India.
In 2024, Pankaj Oswal made an investment of $100 million in Uganda for the development of the first and only grain-based Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) producer in the East African region. ENA is used in beverages, cosmetics, and high-value pharmaceutical products.
In the same year, Pankaj filed an urgent appeal before the United Nations Working Group on Aribatry Detention against the alleged detention of his 26-year-old daughter Vasundhara during her visit to the Extra Neutral Alcohol plant in Uganda.
He also wrote an open letter to the President of Uganda explaining the entire situation and the false claims made by the Uganda officials in regard to his daughter.
