Some Lesser Known Facts About Nilakanta Sharma
He grew up in a poor family with not enough money to afford proper hockey gear and equipment.
He talked about his passion for hockey in an interview and said that when he started to play hockey, he would ride his bicycle every day for 5 km to the only hockey ground in his town and train from 5:00 am to 8:30 am.
He was inspired by his fellow state athletes such as Chinglensana Singh and Kothajit Singh, to play for India and improve the living conditions of his family.
In 2011, he started training at the Olympian Ashok Dhyanchand Hockey Academy in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
He is a fitness enthusiast and enjoys working out in the gym.

He was a member of the Indian team during the Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup in 2016.
He played a key role in the success of the Indian team during the 2020 Summer Olympics.
