Some Lesser Known Facts About Manj Musik

  • Manj Musik laid the foundation of the band Rhythm, Dhol, Bass (RDB) along with his two brothers, Surjeet and Kuldeep, in 1997. They began playing music together at a local gurudwara, where they helped their father perform for the community.

  • After getting married to Nindy Kaur in the United Kingdom in 2002, they left for Canada with no savings as they spent all their money on their wedding. They struggled to afford even basic living expenses there.

  • Manj and Nindy rented a basement for $800 a month in Canada where they slept on mattresses without a bed and owned an old TV. While Nindy worked a 12-hour shift to cover rent and other expenses, Manj did shows for $250 with his band RDB, which had not yet gained recognition.

  • The band later became popular and sang songs like the title track of the film ā€˜Singh Is Kinngā€™ (2008), ā€˜Paisa Paisaā€™ for the film ā€˜De Dana Dan (2009), and ā€˜Sadi Galiā€™ for Tanu Weds Manu (2011).

  • Manjā€™s wife Nindy Kaur, who is also a singer, later joined RDB and collaborated with it for numerous songs. She, however, opted to establish her own distinct identity as ā€œNindy Kaurā€ to avoid being seen as the interfering wife among the brothers.

  • Not only Manj and Nindy are singers, but their son Anoop Singh is also a singer. He started singing at a young age under the stage name ā€˜Noopsta.ā€™

  • On 22 May 2012, Kuldeep Singh Ral passed away due to a brain tumour in Houston, United States. As a tribute to him, the RDB came to an end.

  • After the demise of his brother, Manj started singing and composing independently. He went on to lend his voice to many songs for films like ā€˜Heropantiā€™ (2014), ā€˜Singh Is Bliingā€™ (2015), ā€˜Jolly LLB 2ā€™ (2017), and ā€˜Good Newwzā€™ (2019).

  • In September 2014, Manj took legal action against his brother Surjeet for allegedly using songs that were originally composed by him for RDB. While talking about this in an interview, Manj said,

    I had to do this. Surj hasnā€™t composed or sung any new songs. He is using the old RDB songs, which are my compositions, and performing at events along with his wife. He is even using his wife Jese to sing my wife Nindy Kaurā€™s (who used to sing for the RDB band) songs at concerts and sometimes even fails to introduce her as his wife, making people think that the old members continue to be with the band. The current RDB band is a fake one.ā€
