Some Lesser Known Facts About Mamta Joshi
Dr Mamta Joshi grew up in a middle-class Punjabi family.

Since childhood, she was inclined towards singing. At a very young age, she started her training in singing. Her parents also dreamt that their daughter would become a professional singer one day.
At a very young age, she started practising singing with her elder brother Gulshan.
In childhood, she was taught the āHeerā song (by singer Bari Shah) by her maternal grandfather Sardar Balwant Singh.
She has attended various singing events at the āHarballabh Sangeet Sammelanā held at Sri Devi Talab Mandir, Jalandhar.
She grew up listening to the songs of Ghulam Ali , Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan , and Hariharan .
She considers Pakistani Sufi singer Fareed Ayaz her Guru.
While she was studying in school, her classmates and teachers motivated her to try her luck in singing. She has received a scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
Mamta has performed at various events in India and various other countries.

In 2007, she was invited to Canada to perform in the Sufi singer program of Three Horse.
She has won various medals in singing.
During an interview, Mamta Joshi said that her maternal grandfather Sardar Balwant Singh had advised her that whenever she practices or sings Varsya song, she must put a cloth on her head.
She often sings the poetry of the poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz.
She was appointed as a music assistant professor at Chandigarh Government College in 2009.
In 2010, she sang the Punjabi song āNakhre Hazoor Deā during a program in Canada for which she received appreciation.
In one of the Kabaddi World Cups, she sang the Punjabi song āDama Dam Mast Qalandar.ā
On 23 March 2017, she performed the Punjabi song āMast Qalandarā on the Punjabi Doordarshan channel.
She has sung the compositions of Sant Kabir and Mirabai.
She is known for singing songs in various languages like Urdu, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Maithili, Avadhi, Hindi and other local languages.
Some of her Punjabi music albums are Saifal Malooq, Asan Ishq Namaaz, Naksha, Bhagat Singh, Maahi, Ik Taara, and Kamli De Saiyaan.
