Some Lesser Known Facts About Kuldeep Kumar
Kuldeep Kumarās father moved from Uttar Pradesh to Chandigarh in the early 1990s for a clerical job with the Haryana government.
Kumar was a Safai Karamchari with Chandigarh MC, posted at Sector 22, before becoming a politician.
A kabaddi player, Kuldeep Kumar has represented Chandigarh at national-level kabaddi meets on five occasions.
In 2010, he was associated with BJPās SC morcha. He was also a member of RSS and the Bajrang Dal.
Later, he joined Congress.
On 30 May 2017, Kuldeep became the Chairman of the Residents Welfare Association Committee Daddu Majra, winning 1143 out of a total of 3023 votes.

He has served as the Chairman of the Valmiki Ashram Management Committee in Dadu Majra.

Kuldeep Kumar won the 2021 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election from Ward No. 26, defeating BJPās sitting councillor and former Mayor Rajesh Kalia.
After that, he was employed as the Medical Officer of the Health wing of the Municipal Corporation.
On 30 January 2024, BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar won the Chandigarh mayor election, defeating Kuldeep Kumar, the AAP-Congress alliance candidate. Sonkar had secured 16 votes, while Kuldeep got 12 out of the total 36 votes.

AAP challenged the result, claiming that returning officer Anil Masih had unfairly invalidated 8 votes in favour of Kumar. AAP first approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court and later appealed to the Supreme Court, with videos that proved vote tampering by the returning officer. On 20 February 2024, the SC overruled the January 30 results and declared Kuldeep Kumar as the new mayor.

Besides politics, Kuldeep runs a tent and catering business with his brother in Dadu Majra.
He is also a property dealer.
