Kavita Chaudhary studied in the same batch with Satish Kaushik , Anupam Kher , Govind Namdev , and Anang Desai at the National School of Drama in New Delhi.
After making her debut with the TV series âApradhi Kaun!â in 1986, she appeared in the TV series âRaj Se Swarajâ in the same year.
She rose to fame for playing the role of IPS Officer Kalyani Singh in the TV series âUdaanâ (1989-1991), which was broadcast on the channel DD National. Besides acting, she also wrote, produced, and directed the TV series. The story of the TV series was based on the life of Kavitaâs elder sister, Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, who was the second woman to become an IPS officer in India.

In an interview, she disclosed that her TV series âUdaanâ was once planned to be halted midway. However, she later learned from a joint secretary in the Home Ministry that the recruitment of women in the Indian civil services had increased after the telecast of the TV series. Later, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting at the time approved the continuation of the TV series.
In the late 1980s, she became a household name as Lalita ji, the iconic housewife character in Surf detergent television commercials produced by Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL).

In 1990, she acted in the film âEk Aur Suhagan.â
She appeared as Kaushalya in the TV series âYour Honourâ (2000), which was broadcast on DD National. She also worked as a director and producer for the TV series.
She started her YouTube channel âKaveta Chaudhryâ in 2014. On the channel, she uploaded the vlogs where she recounted her memories and experience related to her TV show âUdaan.â She had more than 2.17 K subscribers on her channel in 2024.
In 2015, she anchored the crime based TV show âIPS Diaries,â which aired on the channel DD National.

She essayed the role of Beeji in the web series âKarrle Tu Bhi Mohabbatâ (2017), starring Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar . Initially, the series was streamed on the OTT platforms ALT Balaji and ZEE5, and in 2020, the series was broadcast on the TV channel Zee TV.
She worked as a theatre artist in the play âPagal Khana,â which was directed by Alyque Padamsee.
She used to make large donations to support people in need.

 Before her death, Kavita was receiving medical treatment at Parvati Devi Hospital in Amritsar. According to some sources, the actress had been battling from cancer for a few years.
