| Controversies | • Accused of committing fraud: Satish Kaushik was a part of the Chandigarh Film City project in alliance with Parsavnath Developers (a real estate company). In 2007, he acquired a 30-acre land from the Chandigarh administration in Sarangpur village, Chandigarh, to construct an Rs. 800 crores worth multimedia-cum-film city. Later, it was exposed by the media that the land was leased by Satish and Parsavnath Developers at a cheaper price than the actual cost. Following the media's exposure, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) established a committee to conduct an investigation. The committee in its report stated that the land was leased to them at Rs. 191 crores, whereas the actual cost of leasing the land was around Rs. 1200 crores. Later, the Chandigarh administration cancelled all the dealings with Parsavnath Developers, forcing the developers of the film city to pull out. Thereafter, a case was registered against Satish and the inquiry was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). However, Satish later got a clean chit in the case as the authorities could not prove his involvement in the fraud. While giving an interview, Satish said, "I had given a detailed presentation on the basic concept of the project and was a creative partner with Parsvnath. I have now come to know that Parsvnath has decided to opt out of the project and UT administration is strongly considering allowing it. But I am being kept out of the loop and neither of the two parties have cared to inform me." • Accused of using derogatory remarks against the Dalits: A farmer named Lal Bihari Mritak, on whom Kaagaz was based, accused Salman and Kaushik of changing the film's title as well as his name in the film. He also accused them of using abusive language in the film's dialogues against the Dalits. Satish Kaushik was an Indian actor and filmmaker who is known for playing the role of Calendar in the Hindi film Mr. India (1987). He is also known for his comedic roles in various Bollywood films including Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi (1996), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), Gharwali Baharwali (1998), and Haseena Maan Jaayegi (1998). He directed several popular films like Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai (2001) and Tere Naam (2003).
He grew up in Naiwala Gali, Karolbagh, Delhi. In an interview, while talking about his graduation days at Kirori Mal College, Satish said that he started skipping classes after joining the college’s theatre group called Players. Thereafter, he acted in several plays and represented his college at various events. He received the Best Actor Award for his role in a play titled Teen Apahij.

One of his noted roles as a theatre artist is Willy Loman in Salesman Ramlal, a Hindi-language play, which was adapted from Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman. While giving an interview, a theatre director named Arvind Gaur, said,
I have seen many versions of the play. But whenever I think of Death of a Salesman, Satish Kaushik’s performance is the first thing that comes to mind. He lived the character and made it his own.”
For working as a boot polisher in the 1981 film Chakra, Satish received Rs. 500 as payment. While giving an interview, he said that he celebrated his first income by buying two bottles of cold drinks. He said,
I went to the station and wanted to take the fast train. So, I jumped the track to go to the other side. Trains came from both the sides and people started shouting ‘marega, kya kar raha hai?’ But they did not know the level of my excitement. After I got off the track, I bought two bottles of cold drink. That’s how the journey of an actor is going to start, or maybe end.”
In 1983, Satish Kaushik not only assisted Shekhar Kapoor in directing the film Masoom but also played the role of Tiwari in it.
In the same year, he wrote the script and assisted Kundan Shah in directing the film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. He also played the role of a character named Ashok Namboodirippad in the film.
His first directed film, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, starring Sridevi , Anil Kapoor , Jackie Shroff , Johnny Lever , and Anupam Kher , did not perform well at the box office.
In 1984, he landed the role of Khajju Haryanvi in the film Ab Ayega Mazaa.

On 03 February 2007, he co-founded a film company named Karol Bagh Productions with Anupam Kher . The production house produced and released its first film, Teree Sang, in 2009. However, the company was shut down following some disagreements between Anupam and Satish. In an interview, while talking about the reasons for closing the production company, a close aide said,
Though there were major plans for the production house, what with other major corporate houses expressing interest in tying up with them for many more films in years to follow, somehow things didn’t quite materialize. As partners, it wasn’t really working out for Kher saab and Satishji. They felt that it was best for them to stay on as friends instead of bringing a production house between which was turning out to more of a problem than a solution.”
Satish’s son Shanu died in 1996 when he was just two years old. In an interview, when Satish was asked about how his life changed after the demise of his son, he said,
I have become much more homely now. Pehle main apne mein hi ramta rehta tha. I avoid going to parties now, I have become calmer. I even control my diet and drinking because of her. I had lost my son 20 years back, when I was at the peak of my career. I couldn’t really get time to even feel that loss. I used to be continuously busy with work and this would make me feel guilty. I didn’t even have the time to mourn my son’s death. But ab Vanshika ke aane se sab baraabar ho gaya. All the unsettled emotions are somewhere settled with Vanshika’s arrival.”
In the 2008 short film Migration, Satish Kaushik played the role of a character named Mr. Nanda.

In her autobiography Sach Kahun Toh (2021), Neena Gupta revealed that Satish Kaushik offered to marry her when she was pregnant with Masaba . In the autobiography, she mentioned that while offering to marry her, Satish Kaushik said,
Don’t worry, if the child is born with dark skin, you can just say it’s mine and we’ll get married. Nobody will suspect a thing.”
Satish Kaushik passed away on 9 March 2023 at Fortis Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. According to Anupam Kher , Satish began feeling restless on the night of 8 March 2023 and complained about severe chest pains while he was visiting a family friend for Holi celebrations. He suffered a cardiac arrest while he was being taken to the hospital in his car. The doctors declared him dead upon arrival at 1 am. check sources NDTV Anupam Kher said,
He felt uneasy and he told driver to take him to the hospital and on the way he suffered a heart attack around 1 am.”
Following his death, his manager, Santosh Rai, in an interview, opened up about Satish Kaushik’s last moments and said that Satish didn’t want to die, and he wanted to live for his wife, Shashi, and daughter, Vanshika. According to Santosh, Satish put his head on his shoulder and said,
Santosh, main marna nahin chahta, mujhe bacha lo’” (I don’t want to die, please save me).” check sources The Indian Express
A couple of days after Satish died, the estranged wife of the owner of the farmhouse, where Satish Kaushik attended a party a day before his death, made accusations against her husband for being responsible for his death. In a complaint addressed to the Delhi Police commissioner, the woman alleged that her husband did not want to return the Rs 15 crore that he had borrowed from Kaushik. In her complaint, the woman said,
I was present in the drawing room where both Kaushik and my husband got involved in an argument… My husband promised Kaushik that he would repay the money soon. When I asked my husband, he claimed that he lost Kaushik’s money during the Covid pandemic. My husband also said that he was planning to get rid of Kaushik.”
