He used to play soccer in high school.
Jocko Willink wanted to join the military from a young age. When he was 19 years old, he was enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
After that, he completed Navy recruit training and Radioman (RM) “A” School training.
Jocko Willink then went to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado and graduated from BUD/S class 177.

After SEAL tactical training (STT) and a six-month probationary period, he became a combatant swimmer (SEAL) and earned the SEAL insignia.
Jocko Willink served eight years on active duty with SEAL Team One and SEAL Team Two.
He was part of the SEAL team that seized the Russian Tanker Volga-Neft-147, which was carrying Iraqi oil after violating a UN ban.
