In 1988, he started his career as a comedian along with co-performer Bal Mukund Sharma.
Bal Mukund Sharma and Jaswinder Bhalla were classmates at Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana.
He gained recognition for his role as Chacha Chatar Singh in Chhankata.
The name Chhankata developed from the college-level annual show performed by Bhalla and Sharma in PAU, Ludhiana.
He also performed stage plays and went on world tours for his stage show Naughty Baba in Town.
He had released over 27 audio and video albums of the Chhankata series.
When he was in the 9th standard, he sang a patriotic song for AIR Jalandhar.
During his college days, he used to do comedy performances in university programs.
He was inspired by the famous comedian Mehar Mittal and Mr. Bean.
The best compliment he ever received was from actor Raj Babbar .
He was a faculty member at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
His famous signature dialogues were “Zameen banjar te aulad kanjar rabb kisey nu na deve,” “Advocate Dhillon ney kala coat evein nhi paya,” “Gandi aulad na maja na sawad.”
On the evening of 20 August 2025, Jaswinder suffered a brain stroke and was admitted to Fortis Hospital, Mohali.
He was kept on ventilator support and given medication, but his condition did not improve, and he passed away on 22 August 2025 at 4:35 am.
