Some Lesser Known Facts About Haotong Li
Haotong Liās father, Li Jingao, used to own a car dealership in China and also played golf. Li Haotong worked as his caddie when he was young.

Later, Li Jingao left his job at the dealership so that he could travel with his son and support Haotongās professional golf career.

When he was 14 years old, Haotong Li won the 2010 Volvo China Junior Match Play and qualified for the 2011 Volvo China Open.
He became a professional golfer in 2011 and started playing on the OneAsia Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia.
He also played in some European Tour events.
In 2014, Haotong Li joined the PGA Tour China and won three tournaments. He then won the Order of Merit and became the first Chinese golfer on the Web.com Tour.

When he was nineteen years old, he won the Nanshan China Masters and became the youngest player ever to win on the Asian Tour.
In his first Web.com Tour tournament, the Panama Claro Championship, Haotong Li finished 11th.
After that, he returned to China to play in the first Shenzhen International, a European Tour event in 2015.
After shooting 71 and 73 in the first two rounds, Haotong Li had a third round of 65. He played alongside famous golfer Bubba Watson.
After the match, he said in a media conversation that he enjoyed playing with Watson, made lots of birdies, and felt lucky. Watson also praised Li for his good ball-striking and putting.

On the final day of the tournament, Haotong Li shot 67. In the end, Kiradech Aphibarnrat from Thailand tied with Li at 12-under-par, then beat Li by one shot in a playoff.
The week after his playoff at the Shenzhen International, he finished 6th at the Volvo China Open before returning to play on the Web.com Tour.
At the end of his Web.com Tour season in 2015, Haotong Li played five events in Asia, including the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, where he finished tied for 7th place. The event became the best PGA Tour finish ever by a Chinese-born player at that time.
He played for China at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

On 1 May 2016, Haotong Li won his first European Tour event āVolvo China Open,ā in China with a final-round 64.

In 2017, he competed on the European Tour and qualified for the U.S. Open through sectional qualifying in England. He finished in 68th place.
Haotong Li had a breakout performance at the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, shooting a final-round 63 and finishing in solo third place.
This became the best result ever for a Chinese player at a major. He beat Liang Wenchongās 8th place (with a round of 64) at the 2010 PGA Championship.

In 2017, while playing the French Open, Haotong Li got upset after making a bogey on the 11th hole and threw his golf club into a pond. After that, his mother walked into the muddy water to get the club back.
When she saw the club was broken because Li had cracked it, she threw it back into the water. Li then finished the last seven holes with level par. He used a sand wedge as a putter for the rest of the round.

Haotong Liās third-place finish at The Open earned him a place in the 2018 Masters Tournament.
In January 2018, he won his second European Tour title at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, finishing 23 under par, which set a tournament record. He beat Rory McIlroy by one shot.

In November 2018, Haotong Li lost in a playoff to Justin Rose at the Turkish Airlines Open, a Rolex Series event.
In 2018, he became the first Chinese golf player to be in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
In December 2019, Haotong Li was part of the International team at the Presidents Cup in Australia. He ended with no wins in his matches against the U.S. team, which won the event 16-14.
At the 2020 PGA Championship, he led after two rounds but finished tied for 17th place.
In June 2022, Haotong Li won the BMW International Open. He defeated Thomas Pieters in a playoff.
In February 2025, he won the Qatar Masters trophy at theĀ European Tour golf tournament held at Doha Golf Club in Doha, Qatar.
