His directorial debut was the 2006 film Mata, which became a cult hit.
His second film as a director was Eddelu Manjunatha in 2009.
Both films received positive reviews and were considered for various awards.
Guruprasad then went on to direct various Kannada films such as Director’s Special (2013), Eradane Sala (2017), and Ranganayaka (2024).
As an actor, he has appeared in many Kannada films including Mylari (2010), Hudugaru (2011), Karodpathi (2014), Kushka (2020), and Body God (2022).

Between 1 and 2 November 2024, Guruprasad died by suicide at his home in Madanaiyakanahalli; his body was found on 3 November.

Guruprasad appeared on various Kannada reality TV shows, including Bigg Boss Kannada (2014) on Star Suvarna, Dance Karnataka Dance (2016) on Zee Kannada, and Barjari Comedy (2018) on Star Suvarna.
He was outspoken and often faced controversies, including a legal case over a bounced cheque in January 2024.
