Some Lesser Known Facts About Zorawar Singh

  • Zorawar Singh grew up in Delhi.

  • He was raised in a joint family after his father passed away in 2002.

  • At 13, Zorawar started participating in athletics, especially discus throw.

  • Once during practice, the discus hit his lower back, which caused a slipped disc injury. Doctors advised him to rest for several months and avoid physical activity.

  • After a week of rest, he tried jogging but had to stop after a few steps due to severe back pain. A week later, he started learning jump rope on his own to stay fit and help his recovery.

  • Over time, Zorawar learned basic jump rope skills and kept improving. This helped him maintain his fitness, and he developed an interest in jump rope.

  • His friends used to tease him initially for jump roping and called it a girls’ game. However, some of them joined him later, and others started supporting him.

  • Zorawar’s seniors and school sports teacher later gave him tips to get better at jumping rope. He also got to know about the state, national, and international championships for jump rope from them after which he decided to compete in such competitions.

  • He became so dedicated and passionate about jumping rope over time that he went on to win multiple competitions and set many Guinness World Records.

  • In 2016, Zorawar went to Portugal to compete in the World Jump Rope Championship. However, he fell ill the day before the match due to weather changes. Despite vomiting during his performance, he competed and finished 4th in the 18-year-old category.

  • The 2016 World Jump Rope Championship was the first time Zorawar faced a loss in any competition as he had won every other competition before.

  • Zorawar became the head coach of a professional jump rope team called Jump Rope Fusion Crew on 10 February 2017.

  • In 2020, Zorawar participated in PTC Punjabi’s talent hunt show ‘Hunar Punjab Da’ and became one of the finalists.

  • In 2021, he appeared on the television show ‘OMG! Yeh Mera India’ (season 7), which aired on History TV18.
