Some Lesser Known Facts About Zain Ali
Zain Ali is from Lahore, Pakistan. He is a Tabla player and a singer who is mostly known for his qawali songs. He came in highlights after performing in Coke Studio 2022.
Zain Ali is the grandson of the late Ustad Haji Rehmat who performed for 40 years with the legendary, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Zain Ali’s late father, Zakir Naeem, apart from being a government employee, he was also into music for spiritual reasons. He didn’t want Zain to pursue his career in music, however, once he watched Zain’s performance that changed his mind.
Zain Ali in an interview said that after the demise of his father he kept himself away from music as he was shattered by his father’s death, however, after his mother’s motivation he resumed back after a month.
When Zain was four years, he started playing music on utensils. He joined tabla classes at the age of twelve.
During childhood, Zain Ali and his younger brother, Zohaib Ali, would attend the qawali show with their grandfather.
As per Zain Ali, once he played the tabla at his younger brother, Zohaib Ali’s, birthday party in front of several respected musicians of his grandfather’s time.
According to Zain Ali, his first music break was with his maternal uncle, who is also a singer, composer, and music director.
Zain Ali and his brother, Zohaib Ali, are known for their qawali songs. They have a qawali group of ten members. Zain Ali with his group performed in many events where they received a lot of appreciation.
Zain Ali in an interview expressed his desire to perform in India and also to meet the Indian artists.
According to Zain, he and his qawali group got more identification after performing in shows like Nescafe Basement season 5 in 2019 and Coke Studio season 14 in 2022.

Zain Ali remembering his late grandfather, Ustad Haji Rehmat, said that he dedicated a song named Gorakh Dhanda, which he performed in Nescafe Basement season 4 to his late grandfather.
Zain Ali in a video interview said that he practices four to five hours daily and sometimes even for the whole day.
