Some Lesser Known Facts About Yamuna Rani
At the age of 12, Yamuna Rani moved from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh to Kollam, Kerala with her family.
While staying in Arunachal Pradesh, her father worked as a PWD engineer. Later, he went to Saudi Arabia and worked there for five years.
In an interview, she revealed that after her father returned to India, he started his own business, but it failed. After this, she had to work as an actress to contribute to her family income.
During her college days, she worked as a data entry operator at a DTP centre of her fatherâs friend.
She started her acting career at the age of 19 with a Malayalam album song for Onam which was aired on Doordarshan Malayalam.
The popular dramatist and theatre director Kavalam Narayana Panicker noticed her performance in her debut album song and later decided to cast her in a lead role in his short film âPunarjani.â
In 1997, she essayed the role of Padmavati in Malayalam TV series âManasi,â which aired on DD Malayalam.
After making her debut in the Malayalam film industry with the film âStalin Sivadasâ (1999), she appeared in the film âIndriyamâ (2000) in which she essayed the role of Malini.
She rose to fame after she played the negative role of Lisy in the Malayalam TV series âJwalayayiâ (2000-2002), which was broadcast on the channel DD Malayalam.

In 2002, she played the supporting role of Sindhu in the Malayalam film âMeesha Madhavan.â
She took a break from the entertainment industry from 2006 â 2012 due to several reasons.
In 2014, she played the role of Madhumathi in the television series âChandanamazhaâ and received immense appreciation for her performance. The TV series was aired on Asianet.

In 2015, she created her YouTube channel âYamuna Theere,â where she mainly uploads her cooking videos. As of 2024, she has more than 4.91 K subscribers on her channel.
She has appeared in four stories of the Malayalam tele film series âBasheer Kathakal,â produced by Madhu Mohan.
She essayed the role of Sumithra in the 2015 Malayalam film âIvan Maryadaraman.â

She, along with her second husband, participated in the couple reality TV show âNjanum Entalumâ in 2022. The TV show was broadcast on the channel Zee Keralam.

She has acted in various Malayalam television series including âAmmaâ (2015) on Asianet, âBhagyajathakamâ (2018) on Mazhavil Manorama, âKabaniâ (2019) on Zee Keralam, âThamarathumbiâ on Surya TV.
In an interview, she revealed how she got her screen name Yamuna. She said that her name was mistakenly mentioned as Yamuna instead of Aruna on the ticket card of the short film âPunarjani.â Later, she opted the name as her screen name because when she was born her maternal father wished her to name Yamuna.
