In 2009, Vinod Ghosalkar was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from the Dahisar constituency.
In the same year, during the assembly elections, Vinod Ghosalkar, who had passed 10th grade, revealed that he had received an honorary doctorate in Political Science from the Institute of Education, Research and Development (IERD) in Kolkata. The universityās website mentioned that honorary doctorate degrees were granted without requiring a thesis, for a fee of Rs. 48,550.
