Some Lesser Known Facts About Vikas Krishan Yadav
Vikas Krishan Yadav is an Indian pugilist who competes in the 75 Kg weight category.
In 2021, he became the second Indian boxer after Vijender Singh to qualify for the Olympics for the third time. Yadav earned the ticket to the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
When Vikas was 2 years old, his father took him to Bhiwani where he (his father) was transferred.
At the age of 10, Yadav joined the Bhiwani Boxing Club to learn the sport.
Later, he went to Pune and joined the Army Sports Institute to get trained in boxing.
Vikas participated in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships held in Tehran, Iran, in 2010 and won a gold medal.
In the same year, he participated in AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships at Baku and defeated Evaldas Petrauskas of Lithuania in it.
Next, he won a bronze medal at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in the lightweight category.

Subsequently, he participated in the 2010 Asian Games and won a gold medal.
Vikas won a bronze medal in the welterweight category at World Amateur Boxing Championships in 2011.
In 2012, Vikas made it to the London Olympics but lost to Errol Spence Jr. in his pre-quarterfinal.
He then took a one-year break from his boxing career to concentrate on his studies.
In 2014, he won a bronze medal in the Asian Games held at Incheon, South Korea, in the middleweight category.

In 2015, he participated in the Asian Boxing Championships and won a silver medal.
In the same year, Vikas took part in the World Boxing Championships.
In 2016, Vikas won a bronze medal in the Rio Olympics.

In September 2015, the International Boxing Federation (AIBA) placed Vikas at world rank 4 in middleweight category boxing.
In one of his interviews, Vikas shared that at the beginning of his career he was very undisciplined. He said,
I was very undisciplined earlier. I would never eat on time, sleep on time, wouldn’t train on time. I was not doing the right things. When I entered the Olympic camp in 2019, I was staying with a wrestler, he taught me a lot. He told me how a wrestling world champion structures his day. He gets up an hour or 90 minutes ahead of the training. Then he does yoga, he goes into training 30 minutes before it’s supposed to start to get into the right frame of mind. So I also started doing those things.”
During an interview, Vikas shared that he skipped eating Pizza for more than a year. Talking about the same, he said,
Within limits, everyone enjoys junk food. Everyone has cheat days, some people have it once a week others once in a month. But it’s been more than 18 months that I have had a pizza or any kind of junk food.”
In 2019, he was invited to the PM house by PM Narendra Modi to congratulate and honour him for his achievements in boxing.
