He is the first Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal after beating Ecuadorian âCarlos Gongora.â

His boxing style, his uppercut and hooks are often compared with the style of actor Sylvester Stallone as the character Rocky Balboa in the Rocky film series. Vijender cites him as one of his primary influences.
