He later started playing school cricket in 2015 as a medium pacer but later switched to spin bowling to avoid injuries.

He made headlines when he was selected for the Sri Lanka Under-19 team during their series against India Under-19 in 2018.
Viyaskanth was included in Sri Lankan domestic cricket through the talent hunt program of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
He also received a scholarship from the Marleybone Cricket Club (MCC) and the Foundation of Goodness
He later played for Jaffna Kings in the 2022 Lanka Premier League (LPL) and took 13 wickets in the tournament.

He emerged as the most economical bowler for MI Emirates in the 2024 International League T20 (ILT20) Tournament by taking 8 wickets at an economy rate of 5.43.
