Vasan Bala grew up in Matunga, Mumbai.

In his teenage, he did karate training for a year at the Gujarati Seva Mandal.
After completing his graduation, he worked at a bank for a few years. However, after a few years, he decided to quit his bank job and focus on his passion for filmmaking.
In 2008, he played a small role in the Hindi film ‘Aamir.’
Initially, he assisted various filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap and Michael Winterbottom. He worked as an assistant director in a few Hindi films like ‘Dev D’ (2009), ‘Gulaal’ (2009), and ‘Trishna’ (2011).
He has penned down the scripts of various Hindi films like ‘Bombay Velvet’ (2015), ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ (2016), ‘Rukh’ (2017), and ‘Jigra’ (2024).
As a director, his debut film Peddlers was nominated for the Golden Camera Award at Cannes.
Some of his Hindi films as a director are ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ (2019), ‘Monica, O My Darling’ (2022), and ‘Jigra’ (2024).
