Vanessa Morgan was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. She is of mixed race. Her mother is Scottish and her father is Tanzanian. She is among the youngest of three children.

Vanessa began her singing and entertaining career in California at the age of six.

She appeared at various community events, sang for the Arthritis Telethons, and performed for Child Help in the USA. to raise funds and charity.
She was also a regular child guest entertainer for the College of the Desert Scholarship Foundation USA.
In an interview, she once revealed that while performing at the Palm Springs Festival (1999), a Hollywood agent spotted her and asked her parents to get her enrolled in the Hollywood Film Academy. She also earned a scholarship at that academy.
Almost after her admission to the Hollywood Film Academy, Vanessa began auditioning and acting in national and international TV commercials.
Vanessa had a passion for live theatre since a young age. She was also a member of one of on-stage theatre Companies in California (1998-2000). Vanessa was commended for her solo vocal performance in the theatre plays “Wizard of Oz”(1999), and “Big River” where she sang solo and acted in the role of a young slave girl.
At the age of 7, Vanessa Morgan participated in the Junior Miss America Beauty Pageant (1999) and won the title.
She also won first place vocalist at the National Date Festival (1999).
In 2000, she participated in the African-American Vocal Competition and won first place.
She also sang with Ray Charles ( American singer, songwriter, and pianist) for an Olympic promo in 2000.
Vanessa Morgan returned to Canada in 2000, as most of the shooting of her debut film, A Diva’s Christmas Carol (2000), took place in Montreal.
In 2001, Vanessa joined Dominic D’Arcy’s Talent Development Program to improve her singing skills. She also learnt vocal instruction at the Ottawa-Carleton Conservatory of Music & Vocal Performance Academy.
Vanessa sang the national anthem at many events such as Ottawa 67’s hockey games (2002).
She was also a member of the Ottawa Athletic Club’s competitive NTA tennis program.
After her debut film, she appeared in many successful films, and her performances in all films won appreciation for her. Some of her popular films are Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars (2010), My Babysitter’s a Vampire (2010), Guilty at 17 (2014), Pimp (2018), and Margaux (2022).
In 2013, Vanessa Morgan participated in a reality show titled “The Amazing Race Canada Season 1” along with her real sister Celina Maziray. She finished in third place in the show.
