V. Ajith Kumar belongs to Samipillaipudur village in Karur district, Tamil Nadu.
In childhood, he used to play cricket with his elder brother and friends.
Later, his brother introduced him to kabaddi, after which he developed an interest in the sport. His brother enrolled him into a school where he could practice playing kabaddi.
His kabaddi coach at school helped him to enrol in a college where Ajith could continue his kabaddi practice and participate in tournaments.
He has participated in two Junior National Kabaddi Championships.
During Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) seasons 5 and 6, he was in the NYP (New Young Player) camp.
One of his favourite workout sessions is a running session.
In 2019, he participated in the Khelo India Youth Games in Pune.
He was scouted for the Pro Kabaddi League via the NYP camp after he was seen playing in the Khelo India tournament.
He made his Pro Kabaddi League debut in 2019. In the PKL Season 7 auction, he was bought by the Tamil Thalaivas for Rs 6 lakhs. Throughout the season, he secured 121 raid points in a total of 19 matches.
In PKL Season 8 in 2021, he was bought by U Mumba for Rs 25 lakhs. His exceptional performance during the 8th season resulted in him achieving 159 total raid points and 6 Super 10s in the tournament.

During the 2022 season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), he was bought by the Jaipur Pink Panthers for Rs 66 lakhs. In the season, he earned 100 raid points out of 216 total raids. He secured 2 Super raids and 3 Super 10s.
In season 10 of PKL in 2023, he was retained by Jaipur Pink Panthers. He earned 80 raid points in a total of 19 matches throughout the tournament.
