Some Lesser Known Facts About Usha Vance
Usha Vance’s family has its roots in Andhra Pradesh, India. Her parents relocated to the United States in the 1980s.
She grew up in a religious family in San Diego, California.
Usha was an academically bright student in her school and college days.
Usha graduated from Yale University with summa cum laude.
She held the membership of Phi Beta Kappa during her graduation years.
Later, she attended Cambridge University in England as a Gates Cambridge Scholar. During her years at the University, she got associated with liberal groups and the Democratic Party.
Usha was the Executive Development Editor of the Yale Law Journal during her years at the Yale Law School. She was also a member of the Yale Journal of Law & Technology.
Usha began her career in 2008 as an Analyst at Kobre & Kim LLP in New York. She worked there for around a year.
While pursuing her J.D. at Yale, Usha interned as a Summer Associate at Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz, LLP in New York and Williams & Connolly LLP in Washington, DC.
It was at Yale that she met James David Vance for the first time. They were introduced to each other by their professor Amy Chua. They initially became friends and later started dating each other.

Usha served as a law clerk at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky in Covington, KY, from 2013 to 2014.

In 2015, Usha joined Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP in San Francisco as an associate. She worked there for around two years and then resigned from the firm.
She then served as a law clerk at the Supreme Court of the United States for around a year. At the court, she clerked for Justices John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh.
In May 2019, Usha was admitted to the DC Bar.
Thereafter, she joined the law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP as an associate. She worked there till July 2024.
At Munger, Usha handled complex civil litigation and appeals in sectors that included higher education, local government, entertainment, and technology, including semiconductors.
In 2020, an American drama film titled Hillbilly Elegy was released which was based on her husband’s memoir of the same name. In the film, her character was portrayed by Indian actress Freida Pinto .
