Some Lesser Known Facts About Uma Thomas
She met her husband P.T. Thomas after he got late for a KSU (Kerala Students Union) meeting who was the KSU state president and Uma had to sing to keep the audience engaged.
Initially, their parents were against their marriage as they followed different religions, Uma followed Hinduism while P.T. Thomas was a follower of Christianity.
Uma didnāt pursue a political career after her marriage and became a homemaker.
She often accompanied her husband and sang during his political campaigns.
She has worked as an office assistant during the creation of the Malayalam Encyclopedia Viswavijnana Kosham (Encyclopedia of World Literature).
In 2012, she worked as an Assistant Manager of Finance at AVT Natural Products Ltd. in Tamil Nadu.
From 2014 to 2022, she worked as a Deputy Finance Manager at Aster DM Healthcare Ltd.
In 2022, she contested the Thrikkakara Assembly bye-election after the death of her husband, PT Thomas, who was an MLA from the constituency and won the election with the highest-ever victory margin of 25,000 since the formation of the Thrikkakara seat.
On 29 December 2024, she fell from a makeshift stage, which was located 15ft above the ground, during āMridanga Nadamā a dance event held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kaloor in an attempt to break the Guinness world record with 12,000 Bharathanatyam dancers.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital after the incident and was diagnosed with various injuries including a spinal injury and fracture in the lungs, causing internal bleeding.
A minister from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Saji Cherian, who also attended the event claimed that poor construction of the stage and barricades made of ribbons caused Umaās fall and said,
Instead of the barricade, a ribbon was tied. When I was on stage, she came up and she waved (at him). Then, when she tried to sit down, she grabbed the ribbon and fell. It was a bad fall.ā
A case was filed against the organisers by her staff under IPC section 125 which deals with actions against those who endanger the lives of others.
She enjoys travelling and has visited the State of Kuwait and Rome.
