| Controversies | ā¢ December 1992: She was among other prominent leaders who supported the controversial Ram Janmabhoomi Movement of the 1980s and 1990s. The movement was organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party and Vishva Hindu Parishad, and it ultimately led to the demolition of the Babri Masjid. Her name appeared among the accused of the demolition of the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Among a total of 49 cases filed in 1992, the second case, FIR no 198, had named Uma Bharti, L. K. Advani , and Murli Manohar Joshi , accusing them of promoting religious enmity and provoking rioting. Later, in 1993, the CBI filed a single, consolidated chargesheet against 48 people, including Uma Bharti, L. K. Advani, Kalyan Singh , and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray . Later, after an order by the Supreme Court, cases against Mr Advani, Mr Joshi, and Uma Bharti moved from Lalitpur to Rae Bareli to Lucknow. On 30 September 2020, after 28 years, a Special CBI Court in Lucknow, acquitted all 32 accused in the Babri Mosque Demolition Case, including BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Uma Bharti. On 6 December 1992, Babri Mosque, a 16th-century mosque in Ayodhya, was demolished by thousands of "Kar Sevaks" who believed that the mosque was built on the ruins of an ancient temple that marked the birthplace of Lord Rama. Some Lesser Known Facts About Uma Bharti
Uma Bharti is best known for her stringent religious views, i.e., Hindutva ideology, fiery speeches, and her alleged role in the demolition of Babri Masjid on 6 December 1992.
She was born in a poor family of peasants in May 1959. She was mentored by Rajmata of Gwalior- Late Vijaya Raje Scindia.

Rajmata started teaching her the methodologies of politics when Uma was in her early twenties. As a result, Uma entered the mainstream politics at an early age with becoming a member of BJP and contested her first election in 1984 at an age of 25 but lost the election.
After her feud with L. K. Advani and subsequent expulsion from BJP, she formed her own party named Bharatiya Janshakti Party, now defunct, on 30 April 2006 in Ujjain; only to return later in BJP on 7 June 2011.

She did her schooling till the sixth standard. As a child, she was interested in religious courses and often describes herself as a āreligious missionaryā. She has also been fondly called āSadhviā, a Sanskrit honorific term for a female renunciant.
She was strongly inclined towards spiritual pursuits in her childhood and achieved fluency in religious epics including the Gita and the Ramayana which helped her in commanding the status of a demi-god at the peak of the Ayodhya Movement.
She has been repeatedly targeted for the statement in which she said,
If GangaĀ is not cleaned by 2018, I will take Jal Samadhi.ā
She is a prominent social and cultural activist. She often does charities for the poor and destitute through Mata Betibai Charitable Trust and Manav Jagriti Sangh. Once, she went on a fast unto death duringĀ Digvijaya Singh ās reign in MP, for the welfare of the daily wagers in Bhopal.
She has also interest in writing and has penned down 3 books in Hindi namely, SwamiĀ Vivekanand in 1972, Peace of Mind (published in Africa) in 1978 andĀ Ā Manav Ek Bhakti Ka Naata in 1983.
She is known for her fierce oratory skills.

In an interview, she said that she was all set to marryĀ K. N. Govindacharya but the marriage was called off by her brotherĀ Swami Lodhi on the pretext that he didnāt want toĀ marry her off to an āunattractive, dark-complexioned fellowā.

On 8 December 2003, she took the oath of the 15th Chief Minister of the Madhya Pradesh; with this, she also became the first woman Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
