Some Lesser Known Facts About Tristan Stubbs
Tristan Stubbs is a South African cricketer who plays as a wicket-keeper-batter for the South Africa national cricket team (Proteas). He made his international debut for South Africa in the T20 format in June 2022 match against India.
Born to an athletic father, who played hockey, Stubbs developed a passion for sports in childhood. Growing up, he would play cricket in the summer, hockey in the winter, and golf whenever there was a major golfing event on the TV.

When Stubbs was young he was diagonsed with Severās disease, just like his father.Ā The condition caused swelling and irritation of the growth plate in his heel. Tristanās father, Chris, underwent surgery for the disease when he was in Grade 11. However, doctors advised Stubbsā parents that if he stayed away from sports for a while, his condition would be cured without surgery. Hence, Tristan did not play any sports for almost a year when he was young.
Later, the family moved from Johannesburg to Knysna, where Stubbs received cricketing coaching from Robin Abbott at the Knysna Sports School (now Knysna Sports Academy).
Stubbs enrolled in Grey High School in Port Elizabeth although his parents preferred Oakhill, which was closer to home. Later, Stubbs became the Grey 1st XI Captain.
Stubbs was nine he was selected for the South Western Districts U-13 team. He scored his first 50 for South Western Districts Under-11s while studying at Grey High.
He played for the Eastern Province (EP) U19 team at Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week in 2017 and 2018.

He was the captain of the EP U19 team for the 2018 Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week in which he led his side to a 22-run victory over Free State. Stubbs and Luke Beaufort set about a 105-run partnership to put EP in a good position in the match. He won the Best Batsman award at the 2018 U19 Coke week for scoring 288 runs at an average of 72.

Later, he was selected to play for SA Schools XI and SA A team.
Apart from being the captian of Greyās cricket team, Stubbs also played for the schoolās Under-19 hockey team.

On 16 January 2020, Stubbs made his first-class debut for Eastern Province during the 2019ā20 CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup.
He made his List A debut for Eastern Province on 16 February 2020 during the 2019ā20 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge.
He made his T20 debut for the Division 1 cricket team Warriors on 21 February 2021 during the 2020ā21 CSA T20 Challenge. He was a standout performer as a debutant in the tournament, scoring 102 runs at an average of 34 with a strike rate of 127.5.
He played for EP in the 2021ā22 cricket season in South Africa.
He played for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the 2022ā23 SA20 that defeated Pretoria Capitals by four wickets to win the inaugural title.
In 2022, he was a part of the South African squad that won the Vitality IT20 Series against England.
One of his career highlights includes the third and final T20I between England and South Africa at Southampton at which Stubbs dived and grabbed a spectacular one-handed catch, dismissing Englandās Moeen Ali. In the same year, he was signed by the franchise team Mumbai Indians for INR 20 Lakh for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). He replaced Tymal Mills in the league as Mills suffered from an injury. After signing as a replacement, he made only two runs in his two innings for the Mumbai Indians.
He was again bought by the Mumbai Indians for IPL 2023.
He is often spotted consuming alcoholic beverages with friends and family.
