Some Lesser Known Facts About Titas Sadhu
Titas Sadhu is an Indian cricketer who is known for being part of the ICC Under-19 Indian Womenâs team that won the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023 and winning the player of the match.
When she was born, she stayed with her grandmother in Krishnanagar, West Bengal, but later shifted to Ranchi because of her fatherâs posting there. Later, they went to Kolkata but had to shift to Chinsurah because there were significantly fewer schools where Titas could play.
When she was young, she visited the cricket club âRajendra Smirti Sanghâ at Chinsurah owned by her family to keep a score check during the matches.
When she was in class one, she started swimming in their club and did it till class seventh. She also played table tennis, but eventually gained an interest in cricket.
One day her father asked her to bowl because the match was called off in the club due to rain. Her father recognized her talent for cricket at that time.
At the age of 13, she gave trials for the West Bengal team and got rejected. She wanted to appear for the trial the next year again, but could not go because of her tenth board exams in which she scored 90 per cent marks.
Titasâs childhood coach Priyankar Mukherjee brought her to the Bengal teamâs bowling coach Shib Shankar Paul, who trained Titas.
She got a chance to be a part of the team in 2020 when she was called by the Bengal team as a bowler. She made her debut as the teamâs youngest member at the age of 16. She could not perform well in two matches and was dropped from the team.
After being rejected, she worked hard and showed her talent in matches organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal. In 2022, in the Womenâs T20 tournament, she became Bengalâs highest wicket-taker by taking seven wickets in 5 matches. She got selected for the Bengal senior team and used to travel with them for the matches.
Before the World Cup, she was also part of the Womenâs U19 T20 Quadrangular series that saw India A, India B, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.

In 2023, she was part of the ICC Under-19 Indian Womenâs team where she took six wickets in the T20 World Cup in South Africa and became a Player-of-the-Match award. She became the first-ever cricketer from Bengal to bag the award in an ICC World Cup final. In an interview, she talked about winning the World Cup and said,
I think consistency bore fruit. The day before the final. I went for the practice session and bowled a couple of overs on the single wicket and was trying to hit the right line and length. I wanted to perform for my team, so that intent was there and apart from that, I spoke to the coaches and watched videos to identify which deliveries could get me a wicket.â
Titas Sadhu becomes player of the match
Her favourite player is Jhulan Goswami . After winning the world cup, she said that Jhulan guided her a lot throughout the tournament. She used to send her the inputs through text messages which gave her a lot of confidence.
Before the final World cup match, she and the other teammates met Indian Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra who motivated them to win the match.
In an interview, her grandmother said that she was never like other girls who played with dolls.
After she made her debut at the age of 16, she did not appear for her class 12th exams.
In February 2023, she was sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 25 lakh in the inaugural WPL auction.
