After completing his formal education, Tarkik Borah started working as a marketing official at DLF Hotel Holdings Limited in Gurgaon. He worked there from 2009 to 2012.
In January 2013, he founded Tarkik Borah Photography and started working as a freelance photographer.
In January 2015, Tarkik Borah began working as a professional photographer at the Photo Marketing Association.

During the same time, he co-founded Camaraderie Bonds, a photography company in Tarun Nagar, Guwahati.
On 2 September 2024, an Assamese singer and businessman Bishal Phukan was arrested for major investment fraud in the stock market, leading police to suspect his self-proclaimed sister Sumi Borah and Tarkik Borah, who were Bishal’s partners in business.
After that, Sumi Borah and Tarkik Borah went into hiding, with reports saying that they stayed at various locations, including Meghalaya and Nepal.
On 4 September 2024, police increased their search, arresting two people for helping the couple to escape.
On 11 September 2024, Tarkik’s brother, Amlan Borah, was arrested in connection with the scam.
On 12 September 2024, Sumi Borah and Tarkik Borah were arrested by the Special Task Force in Dibrugarh.
