Some Lesser Known Facts About T. P. Madhavan
After completing his formal education, T. P. Madhavan briefly joined the Indian Army but left after six months due to a hand injury.
He then worked as a journalist for The Indian Express in Bombay, earning Rs. 175 monthly.

After that, T. P. Madhavan moved to Bangalore and worked for an advertising agency, earning Rs. 400 monthly.
Later, he moved to Kolkata, which led to his entry into the film industry.
T. P. Madhavan made his acting debut when he was 40 years old.
He first became known for playing villainous roles, then moved to comedy, and later to character roles.
While working in Kolkata, he became friends with film actor and director Madhu. Madhu was looking for an actress for his film Priya (1970), and T. P. Madhavan helped him find one.
He helped Madhu again while filming Kaamam Krodham Moham and Akkaldaama in 1975 in Bangalore. T. P. Madhavan made his film debut with small roles in these films.
After that, T. P. Madhavan started appearing in small roles in Malayalam films.

His first major role was in Kalika in 1980, where he played a handicapped man.
The 1980s and 1990s were Madhavan’s most active years in Malayalam cinema.
Some of his notable films include Kalikkalam (1990), Vietnam Colony(1992), Ayal Kadha Ezhuthukayanu (1998), Balram vs. Tharadas (2006), Happy Husbands (2010), and Maalgudi Days (2016).

T. P. Madhavan also acted in many Malayalam television serials including Aluvayum Mathikariyum (Asianet Plus), Mahatma Gandhi Colony (Surya TV), Vishudha Thomasleeha (Asianet), and Valayam (DD Malayalam).
During his acting career, he has appeared in more than 600 films.
T. P. Madhavan was the first general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and served in the organization for 10 years.
He lived in Ernakulam before moving to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala where he developed a urinary disease.
T. P. Madhavan later went to an ashram in Haridwar but was hospitalized after collapsing.
Since 2015, Madhavan lived in Gandhibhavan, an old age home in Pathanapuram, following a stroke.

T. P. Madhavan passed away at a hospital in Kollam on 9 October 2024, at the age of 88.
