Sushila was interested in sports, and her uncle suggested her to play hockey.
She started playing hockey at the age of 11 in 2003.
Since 2010, she has also been working as a junior ticket collector in Central Mumbai Railway.
She considers Gagan Ajit Singh as her biggest inspiration.
Under her leadership, Indian junior team won a bronze medal at the 2013 Junior World Cup at Mönchengladbach, Germany.
Once, she had a major knee injury that required knee reconstruction surgery. But, she chose the other way and with her will power, exercise and physiotherapy, she returned to training within 8 weeks.
She is going to lead the 16-member Indian women’s hockey team 2016 Rio Olympics.
She replaced Ritu Rani as the Indian skipper just few weeks before the 2016 Rio Olympics kick-off, because of her poor form and attitude issues.
She is regarded as the most technical sound player in the current Indian Hockey team.
