In June 1969, she started working as a model at Pierre Cardin Ltd. in Paris and Los Angeles. She has also worked as a fashion designer and runway model.

She did a certification in aromatherapy, herbology, and ancient medicinal practices from 1971 to 2018.
She started working at ArtisanParfums in Ojai, as a perfumer in 1986.
She was appointed as the managing director at Aroma Vera in Los Angeles, California in 1988. Meanwhile, she also worked as a teacher there.
In April 1989, she started Essence Aromatherapy in California which is an aromatherapy products and services company.
In June 1992, Susan launched her wellness product labelled Vibrational Aroma Therapy by Ixchel.
She has appeared as an educator and guest speaker at various conferences and seminars.
For a few years, she worked as a complementary therapist.
The Vogue magazine (UK) identified Susan as a leading complementary therapist in 2002 and 2006.
She has penned various books such as Soul Masala- The Alchemy of Life, Love and Perfume, Vibrational Aroma Therapy, and The Fragrance Alchemist.
She inaugurated an apothecary & art gallery named Ixchel Ecoluxe in April 2011.
She has been associated with various social welfare campaigns like donations of Ixchel Leigh Parfumerie products for fundraising events and financial donations at Greenpeace.
In 2017, she was selected as one of the members of the Women’s National Book Association in Los Angeles and California Writers Club.
