Suresh Selvarajan is an Indian production designer and art director. He works in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films. He is best known for working with film director Koratala Siva on the movies âBharath Ane Nenuâ (2018) and âAcharyaâ (2022). Suresh Selvarajan is also known for his production designs in the films âOm Shanti Omâ (2007), âEnthiranâ (2010), and âRa.Oneâ (2011).
He is an expert in theatrical sets, miniatures, special props, and specialized costumes.
When Suresh Selvarajan was nineteen years old, he earned a state award for painting. According to Suresh, he loved watercolours since childhood because he had strong feelings for nature and its intense beauty.
He often works as a guest lecturer at FTII, Pune.
Suresh Selvarajan began his career in the entertainment industry as an assistant to the production designer Sabu Cyril. His first big project was working with Sabu Cyril on the film âEnthiran (2010),â starring Rajinikanth . He then collaborated for almost ten years on 14 films with Sabu Cyril.

Thereafter, he worked as an assistant art director in Hindi films such as âAgneepathâ (2012), âRa Oneâ (2011), âAladinâ (2009), and âOm Shanti Omâ (2007).

Suresh Selvarajan then worked on the film âKrrish 3â in 2013 and the Tamil film âYaanâ in 2014. Meanwhile, he also worked on a Hindi short film âShaadi Vaadi,â in 2014, and an English short film titled âWater is Lifeâ in the same year.
In 2015, he worked as a production designer for the Hindi film âBrothersâ and Tamil film âRadiopetti.â Suresh Selvarajan then went on to work as a production designer for several films such as âIru Muganâ (Tamil; 2016), âBharath Ane Nenuâ (Telugu; 2018), âPettaâ (Tamil;2019), and âAcharyaâ (Telugu; 2022).

In 2017, Suresh Selvarajan joined director Koratala Siva for the film âBharat Ane Nenu.â The film was released in 2018. It was their first project together, and Suresh designed an exact copy of the State Legislative Assembly in a studio in Hyderabad for the film. He also made a temple set worth Rs. 4 crore for the âVachaadayyo Saamiâ song, which appeared only once in the movie. Sureshâs work on âBharat Ane Nenuâ impressed Koratala Siva, leading to Suresh being selected as the production designer for the film âAcharyaâ (2022). Soon after its release, Suresh Selvarajan received an appreciation call from an unknown common man. Once, in a media discussion, he narrated the compliment he received for the film Acharya. He said,
Generally, technicians are appreciated by directors and other insiders, common people hardly speak about the work of technicians. I received a call from an average movie-goer, and Iâm grateful that Acharya took my name and work to common people.â
In 2022, in the Telugu film Acharya, Suresh Selvarajan designed the made-up town of Dharmasthali, which is considered the largest set ever built in India. The set covered 20 acres and had a temple, a tribal area, and a river bed.

Sureshâs work on the film was praised by producer Ram Charan, critics, and audiences. It took him four months to plan and three more months to build. Later, the fictional town was offered for free in Salman Khan âs âKisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.â
On 27 February 2023, a big fire happened on the Acharya film set near Kokapet Lake in Hyderabad. The grand temple structure of Dharmasthali caught fire, and its video went viral. Reports said that someone on the set was smoking, and after throwing away the cigarette butt, a fire started.

Suresh Selvarajan worked on Sandeep Reddy Vangaâs Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor , released on 1 December 2023. In the film, he built the 500 kg machine gun from scratch using real steel over four months. According to Suresh, this machine gun was not CGI-generated.
