Some Lesser Known Facts About Sunil Chhetri
Sunil’s parents are from Nepal. They later migrated to India.
Sunil’s father KB Chhetri officer retired from the EME Corps of the Indian Army.
Chhetri’s Mother Sushila Chhetri played for the Nepal women’s national team along with her twin sister.
During his formative years, Chhetri’s family was living in austerity. He had not sufficient money to pursue his goals.
In 2008, Chhetri was about to play in Europe; he was very close to sign European football clubs like Leeds United of the Football League One and Estoril Praia of the Liga de Honra, the second division of Portugal.
On 25 January 2009, Chhetri was called up in Coventry, England to begin a trial at Coventry City of the Football League Championship, but four days later Chris Coleman, the Coventry City Manager said that they would not be following their interest in Chhetri.
On 30 August 2009, Hindustan Times announced that Chhetri had signed a three-year contract with English Football League Championship side Queens Park Rangers but that he was denied a work permit by the British government.
He was also the captain of the Indian national team from 2011 till 2016.
Chhetri has received Arjuna Award from Indian President.
Chhetri and Sonam the daughter of former Indian player Subroto Bhattacharya has been in the relationship for a long time. The couple is going to marry in 2017.
