She lost her mother at a very young age in a fatal accident, her father has been taking care of her since then.
Having being born in Kerala, she grew up in Aurangabad and then shifted to Pune.
She started playing chess at the age of eight.
Before her first major success, she has been Youth Girls Champion twice.
She was the Indian junior girls’ champion in 2005 and 2006.
In 2009, she won the World Junior Girls’ Championship, held in Puerto Madryn, Argentina; defeating Deysi Cori and Betul Cemre Yildiz on a tiebreak score.
She became only the third Indian girl after Grandmaster Koneru Humpy and Woman Grandmaster, Dronavalli Harika to bag World Junior Girls Title.
She won the 2011 Indian women’s championship with a score of 8.5/11.
In 2012, she became the Commonwealth women’s champion in Chennai.
She was National Women’s Premier 1st Runner Up in 2015.
In 2016, after tying with Anastasia Bodnaruk and Alexandra Obolentseva for the first place in the women’s section of the Moscow Open, she finished second on a tiebreak.
She won individual Gold at the Asian Team Championship 2016.
She has pulled out from the Asian Team Chess Championship, to be held in Iran from 26 July to 4 August, for imposing the compulsory-headscarf rule which she thinks is violating her personal rights.Â
