On 20 July 2016, Somvir was appointed as Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) in Rajasthan Railways.
While working there, he met the Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat . Initially, they became friends and soon fell in love with each other.
In 2018, after winning a gold medal in the Asian Games in Jakarta, while Vinesh was at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi; returning from Jakarta, Somvir proposed to her for marriage and exchanged rings in the parking lot of the airport.

In the same year, they got married. They took one extra phera on their wedding. In the eighth phera, Somvir and Vignesh took the oath that they would always support ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhaao, Beti Khelao.’
On 18 January 2023, Vinesh Phogat along with other Indian wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik held a sit-in protest against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. They protested against the then WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for sexually harassing many girls. Somvir also protested along with other wrestlers.
