Some Lesser Known Facts About Sivananda (Yoga Teacher)
The Yoga teacher Sivananda’s parents lived in extreme poverty and they lived as beggars for their daily living.
At age six, he lost his parents and sister within a short period of one month after which he was under the care of Guru Omkarananda Goswami in Nabadwip, West Bengal.
He completed his education under Guru Omkarananda and mastered meditation and yoga from his guru.

According to the Rashtrapati Bhavan documents, he served the underprivileged and patients suffering from leprosy in various places of the country including Kashi (also known as Varanasi or Banaras in Uttar Pradesh), Puri, Haridwar, and parts of North East India.
He wrote a book Daivabalat Rogaraya which was translated into Assamese and published in 1973.
The books written about him are Daivabale Roy Aragya (Bengali) by Niranjan Roy in 2007, Kashi Nibasi Eksho Sholo Barshiya Sadhu Babar Sangha Labha (Bengali) by late Purnananda Majumder in 2008, and Daiva Kripay Rog Mukhti o Samasyar Samadhan (Bengali and English) by Ashim Krisha Pyne in 2017.
He continues his humanitarian work by arranging necessities like food, clothes, blankets, and cooking utensils for those in need.
He taught yoga on the banks of the Ganges for over three decades.
He is the oldest living person practising yoga, though his birth date is unverified.
