Controversy	Arrested in Sex Racket Case In 2014, she was caught in a raid by the Hyderabad Police for being involved in a high profile prostitution racket at a hotel in Banjara Hills in Hyderabad. Reportedly, she said that because of bankruptcy, she was forced to do so. The media sources shared that Shweta said, "I was out of money and had to support my family and other good causes, and after finding all other doors closed, I was encouraged by some people to turn to prostitution to earn money. Shweta Basu Prasad is an Indian actor and entrepreneur. She received the National Film Award for her role as Chunni/Munni in the Hindi film ‘Makdee’ (2002).
When she was too young, Shweta and her family moved from Jharkhand to Mumbai. Her father has worked in many theatre plays, and her mother has been inclined towards Indian classical music for a very long time.

Shweta started her career as a child actor and appeared in many Hindi TV serials such as ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’ (2000), ‘Kutumb’ (2001), ‘Koshish – Ek Aashaa’ (2002), and ‘Karishma Kaa Karishma’ (2003).

In 2013, she met the Indian filmmaker Rohit Mittal . Initially, they became friends and soon, fell in love with each other. Hi everyone, Rohit Mittal and I have mutually decided to part our ways and end our marriage. After months of contemplation, we arrived at this decision a few months ago in each other’s best interest, as individuals. Not every book is supposed to be read cover to cover, that doesn’t mean the book is bad, or one can’t read, some things are best left unfinished. Thank you Rohit for the irreplaceable memories and always inspiring me. Have a great life ahead, forever your cheerleader.”

The couple then got divorced. During an interview, Shweta talked about her divorce, she said,

Yes, we have filed for a legal separation. Rohit and I are perfectly cordial and friendly. As I had mentioned in my post it was a mutual decision. He has always been very supportive of my acting career and I am his fan, he is a wonderful filmmaker and I hope we work together someday. We had 5 years of a very loving, healthy and loyal relationship, we just decided to end the marriage and remain, friends, that’s it. Of course I am not closed to the idea of falling in love again but right now my only focus is my career and my work. Love happens organically great, if it doesn’t happen then no problem. Not looking for it.”

She added,

Of course, I was sad; nobody parties when you split up with anybody, but I have an amazing family around me. Besides, I think one is his own friend or enemy in such situations; I went on to become my own friend and I am fine now.”
On 19 November 2015, Shweta joined the Indian film production and distribution company Phantom Studios in Mumbai, as a script consultant. After working there for a year, in 2017, she started working as a column writer at The Indian Express.
In 2016, she worked as an assistant director with the Indian director Anurag Basu in the Hindi short film ‘Madly’ for a segment ‘Clean Shaven.’
She then started an interior company named Interiors by Shweta Basu Prasad.
