Some Lesser Known Facts About Shravan Rathod
Shravan Rathod was born into a family with a musical background as his father, Pandit Chaturbhuj Rathod, was known as the ‘Samrat of Dhrupad Dhamar’ of India. Shravan gained interest in music as a child and began practicing playing different musical instruments from a very young age under his father’s guidance.
Shravan had two brothers, Roop Kumar Rathod and Vinod Rathod, and they both work in the music industry as music director and playback singer respectively.
In early 1972, Shravan paired up with another music composer Nadeem Saifi to form the famous composer duo- Nadeem-Shravan. The first composition by the duo was for the 1979 Bhojpuri film Dangal. The song was ‘Kashi hile, Patna hile,’ and it was sung by the acclaimed Indian playback singer Manna Dey.
Shravan was a spiritual and religious person. In his everyday life, Shravan practiced meditation to improve his efficiency at work. He believed that his subconscious brain was always indulged in making musical tones irrespective of the time.
In 1985, Shravan Rathod and Nadeem Saifi developed music for their commercial project ‘Star Ten.’ The compositions by them mostly comprised of the bansuri, sitar, and shehnai.

In 1990, Nadeem-Sharavan were going through a rough patch as some of their music compositions failed in movies. They decided to start a new business where they planned to launch a range of ready-made garments named ‘Composers Collection.’ The turning point in their life came when they recorded the song for the Bollywood film Baap Numbari, Beta Das Numbari (1990).
The first independent song recorded by the duo was ‘Nazar ke saamne, jigar ke pas’ under Gulshan Kumar ‘s recording label, T-Series. They recorded four more songs, which were approved by Bollywood film director Mahesh Bhatt for his upcoming movie ‘Aashiqui.’ The album and movie were loved by people, and the duo rose to fame after spending seventeen years in the industry.

From 1990 to 2005, Nadeem-Shravan did music direction for more than 150 films. In 2005, the duo split up, and Rathod decided to focus on his son’s career in the industry; he entered the field of movie production.
Their music composition for Raaz (2002) was appreciated by the English songwriter, singer, musician, and film producer Sir Paul McCartney.
On 19 April 2021, Shravan Rathod was tested positive for Covid-19, and the composer was admitted to the SL Raheja Hospital in Mahim. On 22 April 2021, Shravan Rathod passed away after he suffered a heart attack and multiple organ failures. His son, Sanjeev, confirmed the news and said-
We had never thought our family would have to go through such tough times, my father passed away, I am Covid positive and so is my mother. My brother is also positive and is in home isolation, but since our father has died, he is being allowed to do the final procedures to do last rites for our father,”
