Some Lesser Known Facts About Shivam Mavi
Shivam Mavi is an Indian cricketer who is known for pace bowling. He is known for bowling at speeds excessive of 140 kmph. He is also considered a good fielder and hard-hitting batsman who can hit big shots. He burst into international cricket with 4 wickets in his debut T20I match.
His ancestral village is the Seena village in Mawana tehsil of Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh where his grandmother lives.
He was interested in cricket since childhood and played cricket in the streets.
His parents were anxious about his future as they were a middle-class family and told him to play less cricket and study more; however, he succeeded in convincing them to play cricket.
He started training under the coach Phoolchand Sharma at the Billabong Academy in Noida at the age of ten.

He was a batsman during his childhood; however, coach Sharma noticed that Mavi was very aggressive during bowling and very cool during batting. He then told Mavi that he should become a bowler.
He also learnt bowling under the Railway’s pacer Anureet Singh .
He initially participated in trials for the Delhi Under-14 team and was selected after he impressed the selectors with his skills.

Later, he gave trials for the Delhi Under-16 team; however, when he was not selected, he moved to Noida in Uttar Pradesh to get selected for the Uttar Pradesh Under-16 team.
He made his debut for the India Under-19 team on 23 July 2017 against England U-19 at Chesterfield, England.
In 2017, he played in a Zonal level Challengers tournament and took 9 wickets in 4 matches which caught the attention of BCCI selectors following which he was selected for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup in December 2017.

He emerged as a premium pacer in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup by taking 9 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 18.88 and with an economy of 4.12 to help India clinch the tournament. Then-Indian Under-19 coach Rahul Dravid praised his bowling.

In the auction for IPL 2018, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) acquired him for Rs 3 crores against the base price of Rs 20 lakhs.
He made his debut in IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 14 April 2018. He finished IPL 2018 with 5 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 54.00 and an economy of 9.64.

He played his debut match for India A team on 27 August 2018 against the South Africa A team during the 2018 India Quadrangular Series.
He played many matches for India Under-23 in the 2018 and 2019 editions of the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
He was selected for the Uttar Pradesh team for the domestic season and made his debut on 19 September 2018 against Saurashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He took a hattrick in the 50th over of the match by dismissing Chirag Jani, Arpit Vasavada, and Jaydev Unadkat and finished with 5 wickets for 73 runs.

He made his debut for the Uttar Pradesh team in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season on 1 November 2018 against Goa. In the first innings of the match, he took 4 wickets for 25 runs.
He could not play in IPL 2019 due to an injury.
After the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, he suffered several injuries which forced him to miss an entire season of cricket. He suffered ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) injury, then a stress reaction, and later another injury. He underwent 8 months of rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy (NCA). It is alleged that he lost pace due to injuries as he used to bowl at speeds around 150 kmph, and after his recovery, he bowls around 140 kmph.
He was thankful to NCA physios for his recovery and said,
I had great motivators at NCA. Anand Date, our trainer, I’ve known him since my Under-19 days, so there was familiarity. He understands my body better than anyone. He, Amit Tyagi (NCA physio) and Ashish Kaushik (NCA head physio) charted my recovery, step by step. It took me four months to come back to full rhythm.” check sources NDTV
He finished IPL 2020 season with 9 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 23.55 and an economy of 8.15.

In the 2021 IPL season, he took his best bowling figures in IPL by taking 4 wickets for 21 runs against Rajasthan Royals. He finished the 2021 IPL season with 11 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 21.18 and an economy of 7.24.
He took 6 wickets for 55 runs in the first innings and took 8 wickets for 120 runs in the match against Bengal in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season.

In the 2022 IPL auction, KKR again acquired him for Rs 7.25 crores. He finished the 2022 IPL season with 5 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 45.40 and an economy of 10.31.
He became very popular by taking 4 wickets for 22 runs in his debut T20I match on 3 January 2023 against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai and helped India to win the match by 2 runs. With his good performance, he became the third Indian bowler to take 4 wickets in his debut T20I match.

He showed his talent with the bat by scoring 26 runs off 15 balls in a T20I match against Sri Lanka in January 2023.
On 1 February 2023, he took 2 wickets for 12 runs in a T20I match against New Zealand.
In the auction for the 2023 IPL, Gujarat Titans acquired him for Rs 6 crores against the base price of Rs 40 lakhs.
He was very happy with his auction for IPL 2023 and said that he wanted to be selected for Gujarat Giants and applauded the captain Hardik Pandya , batsman Shubman Gill , and the management of Titans. He said,
I am very excited to play with Shubman. Obviously, it feels very good, since our Under-19 days we have played together. We played our U-19 series together, then the World Cup together, then we were at Kolkata Knight Riders together, then we played for India and now for Gujarat Titans. I wanted to be picked by the Gujarat Titans because I was excited to play with them. I had heard that the management and the captain here are very good. I have met all of them earlier. That nature and the atmosphere of the team is really good, that’s why I wanted to be picked by GT. I played with Hardik Bhaiya for India and he supported me a lot during my debut. He didn’t let me feel any pressure. Obviously when you play your first match there’s a lot of pressure on you but he told me to bowl without worrying. On 19 December 2023, Shivam Mavi was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants in the 2024 IPL Auctions, held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, for Rs. 6.40 crore against the base price of Rs. 50 lakh.
