In 2003, she filed a police complaint against the Indian actor Mohan Babu for slapping her on the sets of a film. She was then replaced by Sukirti Kandpal in the show, In 2009, when Sukirti left the show, Shilpa was again approached for the serial. However, Shilpa was asking for high fees, so Jennifer Winget was cast as Dr Riddhima in the serial.
In 2010, Shilpa agreed to work in the serial, but she was offered a new character named Dr Shilpa Malhotra. She did not receive a good response from the audience, and her plot in the serial was limited. In the same year, she left the show.
Shilpa appeared in the Hindi telefilm ‘Teri Meri Love Stories’ in 2012 as Meera.
