Sharath Lohithaswa liked cricket and theatre as a child. He once acted as Bhagat Singh on stage when he was in school.

After college, Sharath Lohithaswa worked as a lecturer at National College in Bangalore for some time.
Later, he left his teaching job and became a full-time actor, starting with stage performances. He acted in plays like Vasamsi Jirnani and Nanna Thangige Ondu Gandu Kodi.
His first film role was a small appearance in M. S. Sathyu’s non-commercial film.
In 1990, he appeared in the television serials Khayar and Poli Kitty, directed by M. S. Sathyu.
The 1977 film Godhuli was a breakthrough in his career. Sharath Lohithaswa received the Aryabhata award for his portrayal of Cheluvanayaka in the film and was highly praised. The film was directed by Chitnahalli Guru Dutt.

He had a funny haircut in his debut Kannada film ‘Huliya.’
According to him, after the film Huliya, he was offered repetitive roles in the films, which made him sad. After that, Sharath Lohithaswa met with an accident and took a break from work for three years.

In 2007, Sharath Lohithaswa played the role of Kotwal Ramachandra in the Kannada film Aa Dinagalu, earning praise and multiple awards.
