Sharad is also popularly known for his role as Charlie Chaplin. He has played the role of Charlie in more than 25 films. He made his debut in the film industry with the role of Charlie Chaplin in the Bengali film ‘Durdesh’ in 1983.

In 1992, he gained fame after he played the role of Charlie in the movie ‘Khiladi.’ He has also played the same role in the movies Baazigar (1993), Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998), Baadshah (1999), Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu (2015) and many more. For his first movie, he earned Rs. 50.

Then, in 2008, Asit Modi, producer of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah who was Sharad`s friend approached him for the role of Abdul in the comedy show ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.’ Since 2008, Sharad plays the role of Abdul in the show. Abdul is a character who runs a shop outside the Gokuldham society where all the men of the society gather to drink soda in the show.
