Some Lesser Known Facts About Shan Masood
Shan Masood is a Pakistani cricketer who has played in many international tournaments. He was appointed as the captain of the Pakistan test team in November 2023.
His family returned to Pakistan after the start of the 1990 Gulf War due to Kuwait’s invasion by Iraq and moved to Karachi. When he was five years old, he started playing cricket. His father supported him, and he played cricket while studying in school and college.

Shan Masood’s father, Mansoor Masood Khan, played hockey at the provincial level in Pakistan and is a cricket lover as well. Mansoor was watching the ODI between Pakistan and the West Indies at Sharjah, in which Wasim Akram took a hat-trick at the time of Shan’s birth on 14 October 1989.

Shan Masood was included in the Wisden Book of 2009 as the Top Schoolboy Batsman of England as he made 1237 runs for Stamford School in the 2009 school cricket season. He scored 50 runs less than England cricketer Alastair Cook’s all-time record of highest runs in school cricket.

Former Pakistani cricketer and coach, Aaqib Javed, chose him for the Pakistan Under-15 in the 2002 Under-15 Asia Cup. He played for the Pakistan Under-19 team in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup.

He later played for many teams in the Pakistan domestic circuit and captained many teams such as Southern Punjab.

He made his first test fifty in his first test innings by scoring 75 runs and got out for a duck in the second innings of his debut test match. In July 2015, he made his first test century with 125 runs against Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy, Sri Lanka.

He scored 40 runs in his debut ODI match. On 31 March 2019, he made his first ODI half-century with 50 runs against Australia at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE.

In the 2018 Pakistan Cup, he was the vice-captain of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team. In the 2019–20 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy tournament, he served as the captain of the Southern Punjab.

He scored 7 runs in his debut T20I match. On 23 September 2022, he made his first T20I half-century with 65 runs not out against England at the National Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan.

In the 2022 T20 World Cup held in Australia, he scored 175 runs in 7 matches at an average of 43.75 and a strike rate of 118.24 with the highest score of 52 runs not out against India.

Before the match against India in the 2022 T20 World Cup, he was practising in the nets when another Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Nawaz hit a shot that hit Masood on the head after which he was taken to the hospital; he did not suffer any major injury and opened the Pakistan batting in the match.

He became the first player to score 1000 runs in the County Championship 2022 while playing for Derbyshire which also included three double-centuries; he also became the first Derbyshire batsman to score consecutive double-centuries. In the County Championship 2023, he became the second overseas player to become a captain of a county team by captaining Yorkshire.
