| Controversy | Legal battle with his brother Nawazuddin Siddiqui: On 20 March 2023, Nawazuddin filed a Rs 100 crore defamation suit in the Bombay High Court against his estranged wife Aaliya Siddiqui and brother Shamas Nawab Siddiqui, accusing them of cheating. The actor claimed that he has faced many difficulties after Shamas and Aaliya made false claims and statement about him. The actor appealed to the court to injuct them so that they wonât defame him by publishing defamatory content against him on social media platforms. However, the following day, he sought settlement with his estranged wife and sent a "settlement draft" to his wife Aaliya's lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee. Nawazuddin, in his suit, also claimed that Shamas defraud him when Shamas worked as his manager. Shamas Nawab Siddiqui is an Indian filmmaker known for his short film âMister, Come Tomorrow (Miyan Kal Aana),â which was based on the controversial Islamic practice of Nikah Halala.
He is the younger brother of the Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui .Â
He was born into a Zamindar Muslim family, popularly known as Numberdars.
His directorial debut short film âMister, Come Tomorrow (Miyan Kal Aana)â (2015) was screened at the Cannes International Film Festival 2015 as part of the Short Film Corner category.
His film âMiyan Kal Aanaâ (2015) has won 14 International awards and was selected for 34 nominations. In an interview, he revealed that to attend film festivals, he has travelled to more than 35 countries for this film. He said,
I got an opportunity to travel to film festivals across 35 countries for Miyan Kal Aana (his earlier short film, about âtriple talaqâ), which I canât forget ever.
After making his directorial debut with the film âMister, Come Tomorrow (Miyan Kal Aana),â he directed various films such as âBole Chudiyan,â âZero Kilometer,â âChalta Purza,â âGehu, Ganna aur Gun,â and âYou Are Not My Husband.â

In an interview, Shamas revealed that his eldest brother Nawazuddin Siddiqui once visited him while he was studying at college. He said that Nawazuddin read the notes that he prepared on the scenes he had visualised and asked him whether he wanted to pursue a career in cinematography. While talking about this in the interview, Shamas said,
