Shakthishree was born and brought up in Kochi, however, she later shifted to Chennai and now calls Chennai as her hometown.
Shakthisree started training in Carnatic music at a very young age; she became an ‘expert’ in the field by the age of 12.
In 2008, Shakthishree Gopalan was crowned the winner of the second season of SS Music Voice Hunt, a South- Indian singing reality show. She was only 18 then.
In May 2009, She formed her own free-style band named Off the Record with 3 other members. The band has been going strong ever since and excels in Indian Contemporary, Pop, and Soft Rock genres. She plays the lead vocalist of her band.
She has recorded many songs for Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Bollywood movies. Her most notable song from Bollywood is Jab Tak Hai Jaan Title track.
When one of A. R. Rahman’s assistants met her for a song offer, Shakthisree got so excited that in haste, she gave him a wrong contact number.
