Some Lesser Known Facts About Saurav Ghosal
Saurav Ghosal is an Indian professional squash player. In April 2019, he attained the 10th world ranking in squash. In 2022, he competed in the Commonwealth Games organised in Birmingham and created history by winning India’s first ever singles bronze medal in Commonwealth Games.

Saurav Ghosal began playing squash when he was eight years old. In childhood, he joined the Kolkata Racquet Club and began practising squash in his hometown.
Soon after completing his school education, Saurav Ghosal shifted to Chennai from Kolkata and joined the ICL squash academy in Chennai where he began receiving squash training under Major (Rtd) Maniam and Cyrus Poncha. Later, Saurav Ghosal joined the Pontefract Squash Club in West Yorkshire and started training under the guidance of Malcolm Willstrop.
In May 2002, Saurav Ghosal clinched the German Open (U-17) title, and in June 2002, he won the Dutch Open championships.

In 2004, Saurav Ghosal won the Under-19 Squash title during the British Junior Open championships and became the first Indian squash player to win the same by defeating his opponent Adel El Said of Egypt in the final at Sheffield, England.
In 2006, Saurav Ghosal defeated his opponent Gaurav Nandrajog at the National Championships organised in New Delhi and became a national squash champion.
In 2006, Saurav Ghosal clinched a bronze medal at the Asian Games held in Doha. Upon winning this event, he was honoured with the Arjuna Award by the President of India in 2007. In 2010, his PSA world rank was 27.

In 2013, Saurav Ghosal reached the Quarterfinals of the World Squash Championship in Manchester, England and became the first Indian to reach the same.

In 2014, Saurav Ghosal bagged a silver medal in individual singles in the Asian Games organised at Incheon and became the first Indian to win a medal in Asian Games in this sport. During the finals, he was defeated by his opponent Abdullah Al-Muzayen of Kuwait.

In 2016, Saurav Ghosal was the winner of the National Championships organised in India, and in 2018, he clinched the Vedanta Indian Open title.

In 2018, in a media conversation, Saurav Ghosal commented that the budding Indian squash players lack top-notch coaches in the country. He added that the SRFI-run Indian Squash Academy (ISA) in Chennai was suffering the same situation.
In 2019, Saurav Ghosal was felicitated by Indian Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar at the Bengal Rowing Club at the ‘Spirit of Sports’ event.

In December 2021, Saurav Ghosal was appointed as the President of the Professional Squash Association (PSA).
In August 2022, Saurav Ghosal clinched a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games organised in Birmingham and became the first Indian to bag a bronze in men’s squash singles. He defeated his opponent James Willstrop of England in straight sets in the 3rd/4th playoff game. In the second round, Saurav Ghosal defeated Shamil Wakeel of Sri Lanka by 11-4, 11-4, 11-6, and in the third round, he defeated David Baillargeon of Canada by 11-6, 11-2, 11-6.

Saurav Ghosal is associated with the Pontefract Squash & Leisure Club. In a media interview, Saurav Ghosal once revealed that winning medals for the country by a professional player would attract the common man to join the game. He said,
I certainly hope so. As players, it is our responsibility to win medals for the country and fascinate the common men. We are doing just that now. I hope more people get into the sport and help take squash to the next level in India.”

Do I put this (ingredients) now or later. She makes lady’s finger really well. Then there are cutlets comprising fish, mutton and lamb. She is very good at it.”
