Some Lesser Known Facts About Satish Kumar
Satish Kumar Joined the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) in 1986.
He started his Indian Railways career in March 1988.
Satish Kumar’s early postings were in the Jhansi Division of Central Railway and Diesel Locomotive Works (BLW) in Varanasi.
Later, he worked in North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur, and Patiala Locomotive Works, improving operational efficiency through key projects.
In 1996, Satish Kumar received specialized training in Total Quality Management (TQM) under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

He then developed the Fog Safe Device, which ensures safe train operations during fog, reducing risks in northern India during winters.
Satish Kumar served as the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Lucknow Division, Northern Railway, from April 2017 to April 2019.
He led major infrastructural improvements in the railway network during his tenure. He also managed the 2019 Kumbh Mela, ensuring smooth operations for millions of pilgrims.
Before becoming General Manager of North Central Railway, Satish Kumar worked as Senior Deputy General Manager and Chief Vigilance Officer at North Western Railway, Jaipur.
He focused on vigilance, transparency, and integrity in railway operations in his Jaipur role.

Satish Kumar took charge as General Manager of North Central Railway, Prayagraj, on 8 November 2022.
In 2024, he was appointed as the Member (Traction and Rolling Stock – MTRS), managing key areas of traction and rolling stock for Indian Railways.
In August 2024, Satish Kumar was appointed as the Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board.
In September 2024, as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ 2024 campaign, he talked with the passengers to discuss the initiative and honoured the Safai Mitras for their dedication to their work. This was followed by the launch of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign at New Delhi Railway Station.
