Sarvadaman D. Banerjee is an Indian actor who played the role of Krishna in Ramanand Sagar âs popular television show âKrishnaâ (1993). He has also worked in the Hindi, Bengali, and Tamil cinemas.
He was born into an affluent Bengali Brahmin family and was oriented towards spirituality since childhood.

After graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), he made his acting debut with the Sanskrit language film âAdi Shankaracharyaâ directed by G. V. Iyer. The film went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. check sources The Times of India
After making his Telugu debut with the film âShri Datta Darshanamâ (1985), he went on to appear in a few more Telugu films, including Sirivennela (1986) and Swayam Krushi (1987).
Sarvadaman D. Banerjee became a household name after playing the role of Krishna in Ramanand Sagar âs epic mythological television show Krishna (1993). In an interview, he shared the moment when Ramanand Sagar offered him the role of Krishna, he said,
I entered and a stack of papers was handed over to me saying, âThese are your dialoguesâŚâ I tried to run away, but then Ramanand Sagar turned up and the rest is history.â

After doing Krishna, Banerjee rocketed to fame and people started touching his feet wherever he would go; considering him as the real Lord Krishna. About the popularity of the show, Sarvadaman says,
The show that went on-air post the cult series, Ramayana, was initially supposed to run for 2-3 years. And it ran for 10 years! I shot the entire serial in a state of meditation. I signed the show in 1990 and by 1994, with the rising popularity of the show, I felt that an atom bomb had fallen into my bedroom.â

Krishna proved to be his last success on television; as he didnât get much work after that; keeping aside a few more mythological shows, such as Jai Ganga Maiya (2001) and Om Namah Shivay (2005). While talking about an instance when he asked Ramanand Sagar for work, he said,
After a few years of shooting Shri Krishna, I once asked Sagar: When will you direct me? He said: Whenever I see you, I see the supreme, so I just end up folding my hands. Thereâs isnât a better compliment that a director can give.â
After leaving the television, Sarvadaman D. Banerjee started his dream project â a meditation centre called âLight Houseâ in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand where Sarvadaman, along with his wife Alankrita, teaches yoga and meditation. While talking about it, he says,
When I was doing Krishna, I decided to work till the age of 45-57 and thereafter, I would get myself connected with nature and then I got meditation, and I have been doing that for many years.â check sources Amar Ujala

Interestingly, Sarvadaman D. Banerjee didnât see his television show âKrishnaâ for a long time. He revealed the fact in an interview and said,

According to Sarvadaman, initially, he was reluctant to play the role of Krishna. He says,
I never wanted to do TV. I was working in films because a single shot in a film stays for 100 years. Then, Ramanand Sagar called me. I knew this invitation would offer me a role in TV and thus I didnât want to go. I believed TV isnât an art; even today it isnât one.â

Sarvadaman D. Banerjee, along with his wife Alankrita Banerjee, supports an NGO called âPankh.â This NGO works for the education of slum children and betterment of underprivileged women of Uttarakhand.
