Santosh Lad belongs to a wealthy family who has been in the mining business since the 1950s in Sandur, Karnataka.
Since childhood, he has been active in sports and participated in various local and state-level tournaments.
 He once captained the Under 21 cricket team of the Tumkur Zone in the U-21 Cricket state-level tournament organised by Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
In March 2010, he organised a charity mass marriage event in Kalghatagi. The event was attended by many celebrities including Jackie Shroff , Sohail Khan , Jimmy Shergill , Meghna Naidu , Sameera Reddy , and Kim Sharma .
In July 2013, Santosh was appointed to lead the rescue team which was created to rescue the Karnataka residents stuck in Uttarakhand during the 2013 North India floods.
He is also a member of the board of the Lad Group and also serves as its chairman.
